Winter skincare tips

During the winter months, the way our skin reacts to the new temps changes.  During summer, there is often more humidity to help moisture stay in the skin and protect its barrier.  In the cooler months, the air gets drier outside and inside with the use of heaters.  When skin loses moisture, the barrier can get dismantled causing increased sensitivity, dryness and irritation. Here are a few tweaks you can make to fortify against the cooler temps and drier air.

1.  Switch to a thicker moisturizer

Environmental changes call for a thicker moisturizer before bed.  We need to compensat for the change by adding more moisture to the skin to help retain it. Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream for dehydrated skin, Intensive Moisture for dry skin and Super Rich repair for those cold winter days when your skin needs extra moisture.

2.  Use a lip moisturizer and add eye creams.

If they are not already part of your daily regimen, they should be during the cooler months.  Skin does not like temperature changes, and these products help with the transition.  Dermalogica Total Eye Care, and  Care are perfect additions to your daily routine.  Dermalogica daily lip care products keep your lips silky and protected.

3.  Retinoids.

If you are using retinoids at night under your moisturizer, you may find you need to switch to every other night.  Humidity and warm temps usually buffer the irritating effects of topical retinoids.  If not already using Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant, this is a great product to gently remove the dead skin cells.  This is gentle enough to use day and night.

4.  Continue using Sunscreen

Sunscreen should be used at all times because it generally helps decrease the incoming radiation.  Dermatologists recommend sticking to at least SPF 30 if not 50 if you are outside and have sensitive skin.

5.  Add Vitamin C to your regimen.

Vitamin C does double duty in the cooler months and helps combat SPF rays that aren't fully blocked by your sunscreen.  It also evens pigmentation, which boosts collagen production resulting in a brighter complexion. Dermalogica Bio-Lumen C goes on smoothly and is used under your moisturizer.

6.  Microneedling treatments

Microneedling helps to build your collagen and smooths the surface of the skin over time.  This may be our favorize thing about the cooler days because less sun time means the perfect time for scheduling effective treatments.  Microneedling stimulates the skin's natural healing process with a series of micro needle punctures.  Days and weeks after, the skin begins to develop new skin cells and replaces the old ones. It is also known for being the cure for those stubborn scar and reducing wrinkles or fine lines.

7.  Chemical Peel

Peels can brighten the skin and minimize pore size over time.  Peels are perfect treatments during the fall and winter months.  A chemical peel can bring amazing results to your skins concerns while also bringing it back into good health.  Peels address hyperpigmentation, large pores, acne and fine lines.

8. Tox, filler and smooth threads

During summer days filled with fun outdoor adventures in the bright sun, many fine lines begin to appear on our face.  You may just starting your aesthetic journey or you may be due for your next treatment.  Let's work together to address those fine lines with some neurotoxin , dermal fillers and smooth threads now before those fine lines become deeper and more static.
